It’s official! Checkers has been adopted and is making his way to his forever home as we speak! We are so thankful to the family that noticed him and his playpal outside and called the GHRS for help! Their willingness to care for and foster Checkers was not only generous but was a huge contribution to his rescue!
And of course, we are thankful to Checker’s adoptive family for taking him in and giving him the forever home he deserves! Yay for this happy ending!!
A resident of a Duluth neighborhood looked out her window on Christmas Day 2012 and saw the Easter Bunny! It was Checkers. But it wasn’t until March that his future foster mom saw him and another rabbit when they ran in front of her car. The bunnies ran off before they could be caught but three days later one of them showed up right outside her front window. He hopped right up to his foster dad. Checkers, however, was still on the lamb. Luckily, with the help of the Georgia House Rabbit Society, he was able to be caught less than a week later. His bunny friend has been adopted but Checkers is still looking for a forever home.
Checkers is laid back, friendly, low maintenance, and litter box trained. He hops right up to the door of his pen when his foster parents open the door to his room. He loves to be petted. He’s mostly a laid back bunny although sometimes he likes to run around his run a one or two times or go over to the box his hay is kept in and try to get into it. Besides hay, his favorite foods are cilantro and basil. He would make a good pet for someone who wants a loving little bunny.
